This stack has been conceived and produced by the HyperCard Special Interest Group of AppleCore of Memphis, an official Apple User Group. We hope it will be beneficial in helping you learn more about our user group, and Apple computers in general.
You can print this document (it looks best in grayscale, if your printer has that capability). Please distribute the AppleCore InfoStack by any means, whether it be on floppy disk, by modem, or on CD-ROM. It is copyrighted, 1993, by AppleCore of Memphis, but we wish to see it distributed. If you would like to receive a disk from AppleCore containing this stack, please call John R. Eagen at (901) 375-9505. Be sure to give him your name and complete mailing address. Alternatively, you can write to us and request an InfoStack disk at:
AppleCore of Memphis
PO Box 241002
Memphis TN 38124
System requirements are as follows:
HyperCard 2.0 or above or HyperCard Player
System 6.0.7 or above
4 MB RAM (more is better, for hearing .MOD music)
Hard disk drive
Color monitor
If you want to hear all sounds and see optimal graphics, we recommend that you have at least a 68020 processor, capable of displaying 256 colors (the stack can be run with more colors, but will require more memory to do so).
To run this stack, you need to make sure that you have HyperCard or HyperCard Player on your hard drive. Also, due to the fact that we have many color graphics and sounds in the stack, you will need to first make sure that HyperCard has at least 2000K allocated to it; an even larger memory allocation, such as 3500K, will be better under most conditions, and essential for listening to the MOD music (see Troubleshooting, below, for information on how to set this on your Macintosh). If you don't like MOD music, you can remove them from the AppleCore InfoStack folder, or turn off the music in the preferences. (People seem to either LOVE or HATE the MOD music!)
Troubleshooting:
If you experience problems with viewing or printing this stack, check all cables and printer lights. Make sure you have the appropriate driver for your printer installed in the System Folder. Insert paper correctly into the printer. Use the Chooser to select the printer. If the page still will not print, you may be experiencing a memory problem. HyperCard or HyperCard Player come configured for a minimal amount of memory. Assuming you have enough available RAM, you can raise this allocated amount of memory by taking the following steps:
a. Quit from the AppleCore InfoStack.
b. Find the icon for HyperCard or HyperCard Player, depending on which program you are using. Click only ONE time on the HyperCard icon or the HyperCard Player icon, to select (highlight) it.
c. From the File Menu, select "Get Info."
d. The current size of the memory allocated to the program appears in the lower right corner of the Get Info window. (System 7 users should set the "Preferred Size.") Try raising it to at least 2000 K. If you have oodles of memory, you should set it to 3500K or even more.
e. Close out the Get Info window.
f. Double-click on the AppleCore InfoStack icon.
g. Try viewing/printing from the stack once again. If it still does not work, you will need to follow steps a through f again, repeatedly raising the memory allocation by until everything works properly.
If you get an out of memory message that tells you that you do not have enough memory to run HyperCard or HyperCard Player, then you should consider buying more RAM in the form of SIMMs for your Macintosh. Your local Apple dealer can assist you in the selection and installation of these SIMMs. HyperCard and the HyperCard Player run optimally under more RAM, and you will find the extra RAM useful with many other newer programs and systems.
If for any reason, you are unable to install or get the AppleCore InfoStack to run on your Mac, you can still join by printing out the following membership application:
